Two Months

What I as a mother have learnt about my daughter over the past two months:

  • Remarkably, Amaya has a defined dimple on her right cheek. Neither Luke nor I have dimples - on our faces anyway! - so Amaya's dimple is an interesting genetic mix.
  • She loves her dummy. By mistake, I purchased a dummy that was meant for a six-month child and unbeknown to me gave it to Amaya. This, funnily enough, is her favourite dummy. If the dentistry profession knew this I'm sure they would be charging me already for her braces.
  • She loves the car, and even more importantly, she loves Tiger in the car with her. Amaya and I are often out and about with the music pumping. Her favourite music at the moment is Snow Patrol.
  • She loves bath time. We always run a really deep bath so that she can float in the water. Bath time is special dad and Amaya time as they spend moments looking into each others' eyes. She always has the longest sleep after this time.

Most importantly, I have learnt that each day when I wake up she always looks a little different. Whether it is that she has: lost some more hair or her natural hair has grown some more; grown longer and wider; uses her voice in another way; or her recognition of her surroundings has developed. Each new day brings a new blessing and for that I am truly grateful.

I can't believe Amaya is two months already.Where did that time go.
It is amazing how, the little things that they develop each day can bring such joy to parenthood.

I can still remember little things that Emily did that would make you smile, and she is nearly 7.

Amaya is very lucky to have two such beautiful and devoted parents.

the new things each day just get better. it is so fun to watch them grow into their own little people, definitely influenced by their genetic make up, but unique in their own special ways too. i just love reading your post.

Today, when I read your post on how inspiring Amaya is to you, I suddenly looked through my own eyes very differently. It is so true just how quick time passes us by and how if we are not looking carefully, we can miss so much. It is clear that you my friend, are not missing a moment. You have inspired me to view the small things(our children in particular) with a big heart. Thankyou.
