Heart and Soul

The heart is the headquarters of our inner universe and a navigational star. It is where we hold tight all those who mean so much to us - the unit of love. The heart and soul can never be rendered fully separate.

Luke (aka Ruki) and I married in March, 2006 at a Spanish-inspired winery in the Yarra Valley (picture above). The next day we flew out to Brampton Island. Shortly after our return to Melbourne, life returned to its normal routine, but my heart remained changed forever.

Recently I gave a speech at my dear friend, Tanya's wedding, that expresses such a change. The heart will forever be the conduit, the living bridge, from psyche to flesh. Following is that speech:

'TO LOVE'
To love is to have someone hold you tight when life turns from white to black, or even shades of grey, and surely to hold you tight in your darkest hour. A hold that is a soft place to fall.
*
To love is to have the greatest friend in the whole world. A soul mate who completes you. Your truest friend. A constant friend. A kindred spirit. An eternal partner.
**
To love is to stand still with one another and without a touch, without a word, without a sign, feel each other's warmth. This is the warmest place the sun ever shines.
***
To love is to have someone sing the song of your heart when you have forgotten the words or lost the beat along the way. Someone who believes in you when you have ceased believing in yourself.
****
To love is to laugh unabatedly, cry unashamedly, dream unequivocally, and to know that every star in the night promises the dawn with each other.
*****
To love is to carry one another in your smile. A true reflection of one another in each one's eyes. To have your soul sparkle with diamonds, the shine of which reminds us daily of what's under our feet.
******
And finally, to love is to marry. And to exchange wedding rings is to bind one another body, heart and soul. Afterall, life's the longest picture you're ever going to take, and love's the longest promise that you're never going to break.
******
