Who doesn't love a wedding? They are one of the happiest occasions in life. They are a time to witness true love, remind you of your own love - and, see close family and friends. The extreme opposite is a funeral whereby you remember why you love the person, pay your respects to them - and, see close family and friends. We all prefer the former, but both are love-affirming. I think I could easily cope with three weddings a year. I absolutely love them.
My cousin, Rosie, married Aldo on Saturday 24th April 2010 at Monsalvat. This location is simply stunning. Monsalvat is Australia's oldest (still practicing) artists' colony. It has acres of established gardens and charming cottages and halls. Whenever I visit this place I think about the past and the people that have stood on the same ground.
(Penny and I - Rosie's sister, bridesmaid and my cousin)
(Rosie and Aldo with Rosie's parents)
Aldo is a Mauritian man. He is not the only Mauritian man I know in my life. The other is my friend, Veer. Veer has often told me how unromantic he thinks the Australian culture is in comparison to Mauritian culture. This was certainly evident at Rosie and Aldo's wedding. Aldo openly wept when he saw Rosie for the first time in her wedding dress. In his speech, he spoke about setting out her pyjamas on the bed each night and placing a fresh glass of water on her bedside table. On Facebook he had a countdown to the wedding day. And to top it all off, he speaks French. I openly announced that I wanted a Mauritian husband.
Now my cousin, Rosie, is a married woman. I remember when Rosie's mum was pregnant with her. I remember babysitting Rosie at the golf course whilst our dads had a hit of golf and the mums drank tea in the club house. I remember chasing after her and she fell face first into the bitcumen and her teeth went through her front lip. I remember many hours at the beaches of Inverloch. I remember studying our law degrees together at my parents' kitchen table. There must be about 9 years of age between us. How life travels on. I couldn't be happier for her and Aldo - because I love a wedding.

Hi Shan,
Your post about our wedding brought a tear to my eye (and many to Aldo's). It was the most amazing day for us, very emotional, but just fabulous.
Thankyou again for your help and effort in looking after Aldo's family on the day of the wedding, it was such a big stress taken off our mind and we are both very grateful to you, luke and your parents.
Love Rose xo
