This year Luke and I decided to hold 'Family Days'. Everyone has a busy life and it is difficult to find common dates when families can come together. At the end of last year, Luke and I organised a monthly Family Day for the entire year of 2009. Part of the deal is that all members must bring a salad or dessert to share, and their own meat. This makes catering and expenses easier for the family member holding the day. This information was posted out to all immediate family members and cousins. Thus far we have celebrated three Family Days and they have all been a roaring success.
Below are pictures of our third, and most recent, Family Day. It was held at our house with a total number of 18 people - the largest yet.
Amaya trying to blow out the candle on her nana's birthday cake.
Hannah, my niece, with her favourite toy for the day - a drill - which she kindly drilled into my backside. Her look says it all!
My mum, aka nana, and her birthday cake. My siblings and I gave her a horse-drawn carriage ride gift voucher through the city for her birthday.
Our newest addition, Joe - otherwise known as Joe Joe - and Harry's brother. Everyone took a turn at cuddling this little fellow. Such blue eyes and crazy blonde hair.
I love that my family comes together every month. When I was growing up, I always remember spending time with my cousins. I too want Amaya to get to know her cousins - young and not so young - so that she can form special bonds with them too.

Hi Shan,
They are lovely photos and I think it's so great that you guys have organised those days! You have (once again) inspired me to do this when I have a family of my own - I have somehow missed contact with my cousins and hope that my children can enjoy theirs. Thank you again Shan xox
hey shan,
we love the family day concept and enjoy attending.Hannah and Emily just adore Amaya, so much so, that Hannah chose her to talk about a family member at school.
looking forward to the next one.
cheers
Terrie
Hi Shan,
it reminds me when i was a liitle girl. i used to see my cousins and other relatives quite often having dinner or family trips. was great fun. but since grew up and everyone lives apart and start their own family.. it's getting hard to do so, but guess they would still keep this tradition but by applying in different ways.
thank you for sharing this lovely blog entry.
